Interior Design Costs in Sydney: What to Expect

One of the first questions clients ask is how much interior design costs. The honest answer is that it depends on the size and scope of your project, but understanding how fees are structured will help you plan your budget with confidence.

How interior designers charge

Most Sydney interior designers charge in one of three ways: an hourly rate, a fixed fee for a defined scope, or a percentage of the overall project cost. Many studios use a combination, for example a fixed fee for concept design and hourly rates for documentation, coordination and site visits.

What affects the cost

The biggest factors are the number of rooms or areas involved, the level of documentation required, how much joinery is being designed, and how involved you'd like the designer to be during construction. A single bathroom refresh is a very different scope from a whole-home renovation with a new kitchen, bathrooms, lighting and joinery.

Consultations

If you're not ready for a full-scope project, a one-off consultation can be a great starting point. In a consultation we can review your plans, give advice on layout, finishes and colour, and help you prioritise where to spend.

Getting value from your designer

A good designer should help you spend wisely. That means identifying where investing more will have the greatest impact, using cost-effective alternatives in secondary areas, and working from documentation you already have rather than recreating work unnecessarily. Clear scope and regular check-ins also help keep design fees under control.

Every project is different, so the best way to understand costs for your home is to talk to us about your plans. We'll outline the scope and give you a clear fee estimate before any work begins.
