What Does an Interior Designer Actually Do on a Renovation?
Many people aren't sure what an interior designer does beyond choosing colours and furniture. On a renovation or new build, a good interior designer is involved in much more, from layout and joinery through to documentation and coordination with your builder.
Design direction and layout
We start by understanding how you live, what you love and your budget. From there we review the layout and develop a design direction for the whole home, so every space feels connected and considered rather than designed room by room.
Kitchens, bathrooms and joinery
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and built-in joinery are where interior design adds the most value. We design layouts, cabinetry, tile layouts, niches and storage so they look beautiful and work for your daily routine.
Finishes, fixtures and selections
We select and coordinate flooring, stone, tiles, tapware, lighting, hardware and paint colours, making sure everything works together. We also help you decide where to invest and where cost-effective alternatives will do the job just as well.
Documentation
Detailed documentation, including joinery drawings, tile layouts, lighting and electrical plans and finishes schedules, gives your builder and trades clear instructions and helps avoid mistakes and variations.
Coordination
Throughout the project we liaise with builders, cabinetmakers, stonemasons and suppliers to keep the design on track. Having a designer in your corner can save time, stress and money.
