Why Lighting and Electrical Plans Matter Before You Build
Lighting is one of the most overlooked parts of a renovation or new build, yet it has a huge impact on how a home looks and feels. A detailed lighting and electrical plan, coordinated with your reflected ceiling plan (RCP), should be resolved well before construction starts.
Getting it right on paper saves money on site
Once walls are lined and ceilings are set, moving a downlight, power point or switch becomes expensive and disruptive. Documenting every fitting, switch and power point in advance gives your builder and electrician a clear plan to price and build from, and avoids costly variations later.
Layered lighting
Good lighting design uses layers. Ambient lighting provides general light, task lighting supports activities like cooking and reading, and feature lighting such as pendants, wall lights and concealed LED strips adds atmosphere and highlights joinery, artwork and architectural details.
Coordinating with joinery and furniture
Lighting needs to work with the layout. We coordinate pendant positions with the kitchen island, wall lights with mirrors and bedheads, and power points with furniture and appliance locations, so everything sits exactly where it should.
Raised ceilings and feature moments
Raised or coffered ceilings over kitchens and living areas can be stunning when lighting is integrated thoughtfully. Planning these details early means the structure, ceiling heights and lighting all work together.
